Apollo PTA STEM Fair
Register to participate.
Check with your teacher to see if your entire class has been pre-registered (MERLIN, All 5th Grades, and some 4th Grades). All other young scientists wishing to display a project at the fair must register in advance through this online form. We strongly encourage early registration in order to reserve your space for your project board. Final registration deadline is April 30.
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Working with someone else.
Students not required by their teacher to have an independent project may work independently or with a partner who is also a student at Apollo Elementary (for example, a classmate or sibling). For groups projects, each person should register individually online and indicate they are part of a group.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? Is there a problem you can help solve? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. Click here for a list of project ideas.
If you have trouble thinking of something on your own, visit the school or local library. You also could grab an adult and check out the internet, which is full of resources to help you choose a topic. Here are a few science links on the Web.
Follow the guidelines.
To see how your project might look, click on this project board diagram. Don't forget to include your name(s), grade, and teacher somewhere on your presentation!
Students in grades K - 3 are encouraged to explore any part of science that interests them. Students can present their discoveries on the standard 36" board or any smaller size board. The presentation may be freestyle, but it should include a title, pictures or drawings with captions, and observations or comments.
4th and 5th grade students will receive science project guidelines in class. Please refer to the rules specified by his/her teacher.
Go to our Tips page for detailed recommendations on creating your science project.
Where to buy a display board? Most office supply and craft supply stores carry tri-fold boards.
Judging and awards.
Our science fair is non-competitive, as our goal is to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep, lifelong passion for science. Earn a ribbon for participation and presenting your project to an adult in your class or on the day of the fair during classroom STEM Fair visits.
Submit your project on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Bring your project to the Apollo Elementary gym on the morning of the fair to check-in your display. We will accept projects between 9:00-9:10 AM.
Please review the STEM Fair Safety Rules before submitting your work.
Students should have the opportunity to visit the STEM Fair during the daytime with their classes and are invited back in the evening with their families.
Pick up your project at the end of the night.
Please try to take your project home at the end of the Fair. Displays not picked up that evening will be returned to the teachers.
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the STEM Fair wouldn't be possible without our fantastic volunteers. You don't need to be a scientist! If you can help during the day to listen to student presentations or help us set up in the evening on Thursday, April 1, 2021, please register online to volunteer
Support the Apollo PTA!
This program wouldn't be possible without your annual PTA Membership support and donations to the Apollo PTA. Become a member anytime!
